While Therapy Animals of San Antonio would deeply appreciate being recognized directly in a person’s will, we understand that most people have family or dear friends for whom they wish to provide. There are occasions, however, when the persons or institutions named as beneficiaries in a will are not able to accept the assets intended for them nor are the other beneficiaries to whom the assets might otherwise go. In these cases, the unclaimed assets from the will are turned over to the state. However, there is an option that may be added to every will that identifies a contingent beneficiary that would be given any unclaimed assets; only if and when the assets are unclaimed as specified in the will.
