May 2015 - Four young men read to Bailey all year in our StoryTails program. Three of them are pictured below. They needed to be at a certain reading level to pass to the next grade. All four were reading three levels, and one of them four levels, higher than when they began with Bailey. All four will be going to the next grade. They were tickled to death with their Awards and Certificates. The Reading Specialist teacher was thrilled as much as they were. They especially loved Bailey's actual paw print on the certificate. I'm pretty sure their moms will bring them to Summer Reading Program to see Bailey. Fun times!

May 2015 - In a moving Memorial Day ceremony at Fort Sam Houston under rain-laden clouds, those men and women who gave their all for our country were honored and celebrated. As therapy dogs who work at Fort Sam in support of our veterans at two locations, Warrior Family and Support Center and San Antonio Military Medical Center, Dooley and his handler Mary Kay Stewart, and Bailey and her handler Donna Schweitzer were present as invited guests. We were proud to be there in support of our military and hope to continue to expand our presence with more teams at Fort Sam. Pictured with us is Queta L. Marquez, the County Veterans Service Officer who was the guest speaker. Ms. Marquez, a native of San Antonio, has a long and important history of military service in the Marines where she was awarded many personal decorations including two Bronze Stars.

October 22, 2014 - Donna and Bailey volunteered as a Red Cross Canine Therapy Team at a mock airplane disaster at the airport. This drill is required by the FAA every three years. They were located with approximately 200 other volunteers at a second staging area. Survivors of the mock airplane disaster, along with their friends and family, were brought to this staging area. Prior to the survivors and their friends and family arrival, Bailey interacted with all volunteers, EMTs, police and supervisory staff. Everyone was receptive and happy a therapy dog was there. When the survivors arrived Bailey interacted with all of them. The exercise ended and all volunteers and participants were treated to a box lunch and comments were exchanged on the exercise. Bailey enjoyed a chopped barbeque beef.

October 15, 2014 - Donna Schweitzer and Bailey have recently been recognized for their service at the Warrior and Family Support Center (WFSC). They received a plaque in appreciation of service and continued support to the WFSC. Earlier this month Donna completed a 24 hour basic course and became a member of the Texas Crisis Resiliency Team. The model for the training course was provided by the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA). Bailey will accompany Donna when she responds to a disaster. They are the first canine therapy team for the Texas Crisis Resiliency Team.

April 1, 2014 - Therapy Team of the First Quarter - This is the first quarter that Donna and Bailey have been a therapy team for Therapy Animals of San Antonio! In this time they have been visiting the Chandler Assisted Living Center, both locations of the Ronald McDonald House, and the Warrior and Family Support Center. Donna will be officially starting her StoryTails visits in mid April at La Vernia Primary School. Donna wrote this poem below about her experience in being a new team. Congratulations to both Donna and Bailey!

To be a TASA team member is so much fun
The experience is really equal to none.
I'll do my very, very best,
To help the readers pass their test.
It is my Duty & Privilege, that's a fact.
To be a StoryTails dog, & member of
the TASA Pack.
