June 2016 – Meet the Team

When did you and Callie become a team? – Callie and I started to work together in 2008, after the passing of Pepper “Pepito.”

What other partners have you had? – Started to work with Pepper “Pepito” in 2006 until her death. She was a rescue from the Fredericksburg Ave. Shelter.

In what type of facility are you visiting? – We visit at Brooksdale in Castle Hills. We started there in 2006, so we are in our 10th year! It has 2 Assisted Living buildings and one for Alzheimer’s care. We also go to Laurel Ridge twice a week.

In what other Therapy Animals activities do you and your partner participate? – We have done presentations, visited Libraries, participated in college de-stressors, StoryTails, and other activities, but we are slowing down a bit.

Tell us something about your partner that we may not know. – Callie was given to us by Laurie Anderson, a former TASA member. She needed to give Callie away since she was moving and could not take but one pet in the new place. It’s been the biggest blessing. Callie is precious, loving, and adored by all our clients, especially our Alzheimer’s friends. They know her name, but they don’t know mine! She was rescued in Helotes, hurt and with porcupine quails in her face. She is beautiful now and we love her so much. My husband calls her my shadow!

What Therapy Animals leadership position(s) do you currently have? – None.

What other leadership positions have you had? – None.

Tell us something about yourself that we may not know. – Love going to our Wounded Warriors. They are precious and in need of help. If not for my knees and the illness of my husband I would go every week if possible, but alas, I have to slow down!

We visited building #2 today and saw quite a few in the parlor. Then went to the individual rooms. The residents like to see us and they seem to enjoy our visit. Some of our clients have some depression, so we try to cheer them up and give them as much love and warmth as we can. Callie seems to understand when they are in need and goes and puts her head in their lap…..it is so sweet to see….she is a lovely partner and we go home tired but happy!
